Ustoka

Ustoka is the old Serbian name for the eastern wind, also known as Kosava.

In Djerdap National Park, nature is not just a landscape – it is a living legend. Among the many stories passed down through generations, the wind Ustoka holds a special place. They say it suddenly descends through gorges and valleys, bringing weather changes and a sense of unrest. But for the locals, Ustoka was never just wind – it was a sign, a message, and part of everyday life.

According to folk beliefs, Ustoka is the wind that „opens the path". Fishermen feared it because it could raise waves and capsize boats, while housewives believed it brought unrest to the home if a candle wasn't lit before the icon. Shepherds told stories that the night Ustoka carries „voices of ancestors", so they would close doors and windows so the wind wouldn't disturb them.

Historical records from the 19th century mention caravans that had to stop when Ustoka strengthened, as it carried dust and broke branches. Travelers through the Djerdap gorge wrote that this wind was an invisible companion on long journeys.

Today, Ustoka is part of Djerdap's identity – a symbol of natural power and mystique. When you stay in this region, you might feel it rustling through the treetops or bringing freshness along the Danube. That's the moment when you realize you are part of a story that has lasted for centuries.

Ustoka, the wind after which our little house is named, is older than people. Sometimes strong, sometimes gentle, it connects lands, peoples, voices and paths... and perhaps it will be the one that brings you to us one day.

We had a wonderful stay at Glamping Ustoka. Radovan and his daughter are amazing hosts. They met us almost at the house, because the road ahead was very muddy and helped us get over it. They gave us quick and easy instructions about the house and were very kind. The house itself was amazing! The bed was big, the bathroom was very clean and had everything you’d need. They had already prepared the wood for the jacuzzi which was also very helpful and kind. The place is magnificent. Quiet, away from all the noise of the city. We even had some furry friends which were great company! I would 11/10 recommend this place for anyone who wants to have a relaxing weekend getaway.

Absolutely amazing experience! This is a beautiful and peaceful getaway, with breathtaking views, a fantastic hot tub, and a cozy, well-equipped cabin. Everything was spotless and thoughtfully arranged, with great attention to detail. The hosts were incredibly welcoming and made sure we had everything we needed.

A perfect place to relax, disconnect, and enjoy nature. Definitely a 10/10 experience, and we’d love to come back!

Staying at Ustoka was the most relaxing and recharging holiday I have had in the last few years, and the host and accommodation played a key role in that. Rade and his family are exceptional hosts—proactive, friendly, and communicative, always ready to answer questions and offer recommendations. A bonus was the lovely couple who clean the house and left me with a warm sense of hospitality as I departed. The place itself is beautiful—compact, clean, and well equipped (bring your own food because it is quite remote). There is plenty to do nearby: hiking in Đerdap, water activities on the Danube, hopping across the border into Romania... But nothing beats returning to the cabin and relaxing in the warm hot tub while watching the stars. Definitely worth visiting again!
